Dancing the night away at your wedding is usually kicked off with a first dance. The majority of couples are most definitely not contenders for a Dancing with the Stars spot, so there are typically plenty of nerves and even dancing lessons (devolving into a few arguments…) when figuring out what your wedding’s first dance might look like.
The first step (ha – dancing pun) to a good first dance, is a great first dance song. So I’ve asked some of Southern Bride’s friends to share what they had, and I’ve compiled a few popular ones too, to give you some ideas. (P.S. wondering if you should get dance lessons? or even HAVE a first dance? check out some advice here)
For our first dance, Craig and I danced to Lover Lover by Jimmy Barnes
For their first dance, Sophie from Harmony Skin and Beauty (and NZ Beauty Therapist of the Year for 2015/16!) and her hubby danced to Shut up and Dance by Walk the Moon
Megan from She Said Yes had This Year’s Love from David Gray
But how about choosing a classic, sung by Michael Buble – The way you look tonight
A sweet Bruno Mars song – Just the way you are
Adele’s Remedy is about being there for the people you care about – a lovely sentiment on your wedding day
Simply love this video, and the song, by John Legend – All of Me
All My Life – K-Ci and Jojo
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams would be perfect for an awkward shuffle side-to-side-spin-repeat type of dance 😉

For the bravest among us, how about a viral video worthy first dance? Recreating the final dance (Time of My Life) from Dirty Dancing has to be on someone’s bucket list?!
If your spouse-to-be isn’t a big fan of soppy ballads, then trying for something a little more alternative might keep them happy. Suggesting Oasis’ Wonderwall for example:
‘Amazed’ – Lone Star
‘From This Moment’ – Shania Twain
‘Dear Future Husband’ – Meghan Trainor
‘You’re Still The One’ – Shania Twain
‘Happy’ – Pharrell Williams
‘We Found Love’ – Rihanna
‘Islands In The Stream’ – Dolly Parton
‘Mirrors’ – Justin Timberlake
‘You’re The One That I Want’ – Grease
