New Zealand Destination Wedding Venues

If you’re considering a New Zealand destination wedding, awesome. Our beautiful country has some of the world’s best scenery, not to mention wedding venues! Both the North and South Islands have contenders in our minds for the prize of New Zealand’s destination wedding venue, but we’ll let you decide which one…

Top 5 New Zealand Destination Wedding Locations

A destination wedding is all about travelling outside of your hometown to get married. When people think ‘destination wedding,’ usually they think about white sands and marrying on a beach overseas. While that can be lovely, it’s not always an option for many reasons including cost, guests and health. But what you could do instead is have an NZ destination wedding, often having the ceremony, reception and accommodation in one place.

Here are five of our favourite locations:

The Caitlins

On the east coast of the South Island, The Caitlins are a hidden wedding venue gem.

With a variety of scenery and wildlife, along with an exceptional wedding venue at RiverRidge Retreat, it’s a must-see on our list! Even better, they have a professional wedding planner who can organise everything for you, including onsite accommodation and catering.

Popular for so many reasons, Queenstown is another beautiful wedding location. From a white wedding in the snow to an intimate occasion at the lakeside, there’s a venue for everyone and every budget.

Another favourite South Island wedding destination, Wanaka is stunning in so many ways. A lakeside wedding ceremony and photos, or even on one of the many beautiful hills are absolute possibilities.

Hawkes Bay

Fancy getting married in a stone fruit orchard or vineyard? Or how about in the sound shell on Marine Parade?

The Hawkes Bay is renowned for its art deco architecture coastal scenery, stone fruit and vineyards. Any of those take your fancy?

Bay of Islands

Near the top of the North Island, the Bay of Islands has a wide range of possibilities. Steeped in history and with unique architecture and scenery, there are a wide collection of wedding vendors available. As for wedding photos, hop on a boat and head out to the Hole in the Rock, take a drive along 90 Mile Beach or pose outside of the Stone Store at Kerikeri.

If you’re not sure where to begin when choosing your New Zealand destination wedding location, we suggest contacting Adele at RiverRidge Retreat. She’ll be able to help explain the key offerings she has available for couples marrying within The Caitlins, including stunning venues for your ceremony, reception and accommodation.
