Pinning down a theme for your wedding makes a lot of sense. The wedding theme helps you make decisions and drives the aesthetic look of your big day. Check out this post I’ve written previously on why a wedding theme is important.
But if you’re well and truly stuck on what to do for your wedding’s overarching theme, then this new series of blog posts might help inspire you. Today’s the first post, and I’m delving into ideas for a wedding for a rustic, country kind of wedding party.
5 Rustic wedding themes and ideas for a country wedding
The classic – burlap and lace
Using burlap and lace is a classic combination, and it can be incorporated in so many ways – invitations, decor and attire can all hint at the theme. You can hire burlap runners, bunting and burlap and lace cutlery holders from The Wedding Bunch.

Hunting
Hunting is a pretty popular pastime – especially with grooms! Incorporating deer and deer antlers into your wedding is an elegant way to incorporate this popular hobby.
If your husband is as duck-shooting mad as mine, a duck hunting themed wedding might appeal. One couple I know decorated their wedding photo booth to look like a mai mai, and their cake toppers were two cute ducks.

Chalkboard
A chalkboard theme is fun and easy to DIY. This theme allows you to go glamourous, really rustic, and somewhere in between.

Sunflowers
These beautiful bright flowers lend themselves to a country-style wedding. You can incorporate bunting and burlap to give it a really rustic feel too.

Horses
If you’re a horse lover, incorporating your favourite filly might be a priority anyway. You can easily incorporate horse shoe imagery throughout your wedding stationery and styling. (Plus check out these tips for riding your horse down the aisle). If you’re not able to get your horse to your wedding (or it’s not a suitable venue) then incorporate horse shoes – they are a symbol of good luck as well!
Wow that is a really in-depth look at rustic weddings, I have actually emailed a link to my soon to be sister in law who is planning on getting married next year. She’s a horse lover and this will be right up here alley. Things that even I with my Pinterest obsession hadn’t thought of – great read!
Thank you so much Kirsty x Yes I loved the different ways people can incorporate their horses! If she’s planning on riding her horse down the aisle there is some advice here too: https://southernbride.co.nz/pets-at-wedding/ 🙂
